Kyle Howard

My name is Kyle Howard and I’m a Political Science and Economics double major pursuing a certificate in International Relations. As Attorney General I am responsible for looking out for the legal and university discipline-related concerns of students. I took on this role because I was tired of seeing my fellow students fall victim to an overly-aggressive and often unfair University discipline system. I am working hard to educate students about their constitutional rights and what actions they can take to best prevent themselves from landing in trouble. I am also working with various administration entities such as Residence Life, the Dean of Students Office and the UMass Police Department to improve student- administration relations. A few of the major projects I am working on this year include:
Running the Student Judicial Advisors program, which provides advice and support for students who have been charged by the University with violating the Code of Student Conduct
Coordinating Know Your Rights events in dorms to provide students with answers to their important legal questions, such as “When can an officer search my backpack?” and “Do I have to let an officer enter my dorm room?”
Leading the charge to reinstate our Student Legal Services Office’s ability to criminally defend UMass students in court, saving students hundreds of dollars in legal fees
